Alliance Academy Attracts
Regional Talent
Alliance Academy
Press Release -
www.soccergrandrapids.com
Thursday,
June 12
GRAND RAPIDS, MI- The
Alliance Academy prepares to kick-off it’s 2008
Super Y-League campaign with a roster of talented
players coming from across the region. The Grand
Rapids based club enters the league after receiving
acceptance from the United Soccer Leagues in
November of 2007. It wasn’t long before interest in
the teams began to spread.
"While our initial try-outs sought local talent, we
soon found out that there was a much broader range
of interest. We currently have players registered
from Detroit, Lansing, Chicago, Kalamazoo, Indiana,
and Northern Michigan," club administrator Tara
Fitzsimmons verified on Monday.

Alliance FC
teams advance in Best of the Midwest; u10s Win!
May
28th, 2008
The Best of the Midwest saw some of Alliance's best
performances of the year as nine (9) teams competed against some of the top
teams from Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and
Michigan. All of the Alliance teams played in the top division
u10 Boys
Champions
leading his boys to a 3-0-1 record against some great
competition. Prior to Championship monday, the boys found themselves in a
battle to get their in the final group match against the Chicago Magic.
Fifteen total goals were scored in the match and fortunately for the Alliance
boys, their eighth goal was the last of the game. Throughout the
goal-fest, the 10s did a great job of controlling the possession against a great
team in one of the top clubs in the country. Three tight pool matches had
prepared them for the championship on Monday and the boys did well in their
final match winning by a comfortable four goal margin.
u12 Girls Finalists-
The 12s lost the Best of the Midwest finals after failing to convert any of
their fourteen shots in regulation. The game was decided on penalty kicks
when eventual champions Arsenal (NE) converted all five of their kicks from the
spot to Alliance's four. The game of the weekend for the girls was their
2-1 group match win over Classics Hammer (OH-S). The Hammer team were
runners up in their state tournament and put the girls under constant pressure.
With the score tied 1-1, Alliance forward Olivia C. broke behind the defense
only to have her near post shot saved in spectacular fashion by the Hammer's
goalkeeper. Two minutes later, Olivia C. beat the last defender, drew the
goalkeeper and after faking the shot and pushing it wide hammered the ball past
two recovering defenders into the back of the net.
For the u12 Girls this was their fourth consecutive
11v11 tournament in which they have reached the finals and not given up a
goal!!!! With three of these matches being against ranked teams from Ohio,
Missouri, and Nebraska and the other against a u13 team it is an even more
impressive accomplishment!
u12 Boys
Semi-Finalists- The 12 Boys fell to the tournament champions, the
Elgin Pumas after going 2-0-1 in pool play.
u13 Girls
Semi-Finalists- The 13 Girls played their best soccer on Sunday to
advance to the semi-finals. In their playoff the girls fell to a strong Brighton team in a game that wasn't without a little
controversy as the girls played the majority of the game with three key players
sidelined due to injury.
u14 Girls
2-1 in Pool Play!

April
1st, 20088
Five 2007 Alliance FC
spring teams traveled to Cincinnati and only one
(the u15 Boys) walked away champions. Four of
the teams that did not make it through in 2007 did
not advance despite having 2-1 records. Three
of these teams returned in 2008 to not only make it
out of their brackets but to be named champions.
Making the trip were the
u10G (pictured left), u12G, u13G, u10B, u12B, u13B,
and u15B.
The u10B finished as u11
Gold Division Finalists after going 3-1 in a round
robin format.
The story of the day was
the 1-0 score-line. The u12B, u12G, and u13G
all won their finals by this margin.

When
Hamdi Rammal (pictured left in blue warm-up) was
named MSYSA coach of the year in November, it was
the first time in the history of our state
association that an area coach was given this honor.
As a club, we all know this award has everything to
do with Hamdi's unmitigated passion for the game
that he carefully balances with a healthy respect
for his players.
Too often in youth
sports, coaches fall into the trap of hurting kid's
egos and confidence in the name of winning. It
would be safe to say that Hamdi has never made this
mistake. In fact, Hamdi is more likely to take
a chance on a developing player that has the right
attitude and work rate. The result is that his
teams are
generally
committed groups who enjoy playing for him and enjoy
each other.
Last Friday, the Detroit
Ignition (professional indoor) hosted an MSYSA night
to honor Hamdi (pictured left with members of his
u14 Girls Premier Team) and other state award
recipients. Amy Dunwell (u11B-u13B) organized
a charter bus from Grand Rapids so Alliance FC
coaches, parents, players, and friends could
comfortably travel to the game. As an added
bonus, they got to meet DeMarcus Beesley (US
National Team and Glasgow Rangers) The result
was a very special night as over forty members of
the club were able to make the trip.
Everyone had a great
time as the game was extremely entertaining, the
atmosphere incredibly professional, and the overall
experience exceeded everyone's expectations.
Thanks go out to Amy Dunwell for organizing this
trip and making it a night to remember for Hamdi,
his family, and everyone in attendance.
Congratulations again go out to Hamdi on such a fine
achievement.
